Equipping Project Professionals for a Rapidly Evolving World

Back in 1979 The Buggles were singing “Video killed the radio star”:
“(…) They took the credit for your second symphony
Rewritten by machine and new technology
And now I understand the problems you can see (…)”
The song reflects the impact of television and music videos on the radio industry. From 1979 to 2025 the way we hear music and consume media contents evolved. Even the TV evolved massively.
How do we prepare ourselves and our team members to thrive? What could be a future-proof blend of skills to develop along the journey?
Here’s a blend proposal:
Promote Teamwork: Collaboration is the cornerstone of successful project management. To solve complex problems, we need to enable collective intelligence, meaning the group intelligence that emerges when people work together, often with the help of technology. It is an emergent property, as it arises from the synergies among individuals’ activities but is not predictable from the individual capabilities alone.
Foster Agility: Agility is crucial in adapting to the dynamic nature of modern projects. By embracing agile mindset (and methodologies), project professionals can respond swiftly to changes, manage uncertainties, and deliver actual value incrementally.
Leverage Technology: The rapid advancement of technology offers immense opportunities for project management. Utilizing ethically the latest tools and technologies, such as AI, data analytics, and automation, can streamline processes, enhance decision-making, and boost productivity. Project professionals should integrate these innovations into their workflows to drive inclusion, efficiency and effectiveness.
By focusing on these areas, we can equip all generations of project professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to navigate the complexities of a rapidly evolving world.
Like the Buggles sing: “(…) we can’t rewind we’ve gone too far (…)”
